Thank You from the Environmental Committee

6/12/2018

This year the Environment Committee have been busy working on ways to make Pullenvale State School and its community a healthier place.

One of the issues we have been working on is REDUCING our waste. It has been great to see so many parents using more reusable containers for lunch boxes instead of cling wrap and zip lock bags.

Another issue we have been working on is RECYCLING. Every year 2.4 billion drink bottles are made in Queensland and they are the second most common littered item. They pollute our natural environment, parks and waterways. Nearly all drink containers can be recycled but mostly end up as land fill.

At Pullenvale we have decided to start collecting drink containers. For each drink container we will get 10c. That will mean we can raise lots of money to keep making Pullenvale State School an environmentally friendly school with funds raised going towards the Sustainable master planning.

I would like to say a big thank you to the members of the Environmental Committee and community who have helped this year to make our school a healthier place. A big thanks to Mark and Cathy Maiden and Tracey Read for helping to make our vision a reality. Your commitment and time have been incredibly valuable.

I would also like to thank Jayne Rowe from the Pullenvale Marketplace who has kindly allowed us to keep the bottle collection cage at the Marketplace and a big thank you to the Kenmore Rotary Club for supplying us with a cage for keeping the empty drink containers.
